BOOK REVIEW by James Odell, OMD, ND, L.Ac.
Dr. Simon Yu’s newest book AcciDental Blow Up in Medicine – Battle Plan for Your Life published in 2019, is a treasure trove of information for patients who are struggling to stay well against the odds. The book is comprehensively organized into 6 parts and 13 chapters that bring together patient stories, articles, and numerous case studies explaining how to recover from chronic illnesses such as cancer, Lyme disease and degenerative diseases. It is an easy-to-read book that engages and informs the reader of practical evidence-based therapies not discussed in conventional medical circles.
Drawing on solid scientific evidence as well as extensive first-hand experience, Dr. Yu provides insight into hidden causes of chronic illness that are often ignored by main-stream medical doctors.
Specifically, this book offers an in-depth look at how to detect and treat deeply hidden dental problems and parasite/fungal problems which are “asymmetric threats” to health. Not only is it written for patients, but it contains guidance for physicians, dentists and other health practitioners who work with patients facing serious chronic and often unexplained illnesses. Dr. Yu details specific diagnostic and therapeutic approaches which are aimed at the causes of diseases that do not respond readily to traditional treatments.
This text is full of fascinating case studies that include full or partial recovery from stage 4 multiple myeloma, breast cancer, lung cancer, chronic Lyme disease, mold toxicity, and autoimmune and neurological diseases such as fibromyalgia, irritable bowel syndrome, myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS), multiple chemical sensitivity, multiple sclerosis (MS), neuropathy, ALS, autism, and more.
For decades, Dr. Yu has operated his medical practice - Prevention and Healing, Inc. - in St. Louis, MO. He is a retired Colonel of the US Army Medical Reserve Corps, Board Certified in Internal Medicine and former HMO Medical Director. He conducts workshops throughout the US as well as in Europe - such as Baden-Baden, Germany during “Medicine Week” (Medizinische Woche Baden-Baden).
Dr. Yu astutely points out that today's evidence-based medicine is driven more by sponsored clinical trials, guidelines, and insurance coverage than by clinical, real-world, patient/physician experience and outcomes. He contends that we need an AcciDental Blow Up in Medicine. Whether you are a patient, physician or dentist, if you are fighting to recover your health or help others heal, you need a Battle Plan for Your Life. This text belongs in every medical office waiting room.
